A total station is a combination electronic transit and electronic distance measuring device. With total station we may determine angles and distances from the instrument to points to be surveyed. Then with using of trigonometry, the angles and distances may be used to calculate the real positions (x, y, and z or northing, easting and elevation) of surveyed points in absolute terms

Total stationsSome total station is used to precisely map an archaeological dig site as well. Total station tells you how far a target is from a reference point and the angles it is at (both vertical and relative to true north). This allows you to make a map of the site showing the elevations and locations of the site's features.
The data collector is a small computer. It stores data from the total station. This information r may be either dumped to a computer or printed out. High-performance total station has unique precision. The user can tackle demanding tasks in engineering surveying, in tunnel building. The user can do structural work above and below ground both reliably and with very high precision. The new Total station gives the unique opportunity for long range distance monitoring of up to 9000m to a single prism. Using the scan functionality of software allows fully automated monitoring of the prism in direction of the line of sight. New total stations have atmospheric correction, and auto-focus. In addition, these series incorporates a quick distance measuring mode and a high data storage capacity for increased productivity. |
